How to Save Money on your Gas Bill

As the temperatures drop, more people naturally turn to their heating and hot water system to provide warmth to their homes.

But what can you do to save money on your gas bill during winter? Read on to find out more.

Service your Boiler

Before you make any changes to your heating, get your gas boiler serviced. A new energy-efficient boiler can save you up to £580 per year on your energy bills; however, having your current model serviced can save you money, too, especially if it is an older model, as you will have a better idea of the condition it is in.

Change The Temperature Flow

It takes 5 minutes to change the temperature below on your gas boiler. This, however, only works on combi boilers (talk to a Gas Safe registered engineer if you have a separate boiler and hot water tank). Drip the temperature slowly to around 55-60 degrees, or you are comfortable saving up to 8% on bills each year.

Invest In a Smart Thermostat

A smart thermostat can go a long way in helping you to control the heating in different rooms in your home. Keeping your rooms warm when you are there, cool when you are away, and even isolating rooms that don’t need to be heated, a smart thermostat gives you more control over how your home is heated.

Reuse Heat in Your Home

This is as easy as it sounds after cooking, leaving the oven open to warm up the kitchen and let the heat travel through the home. The same if you have had a hot shower or bath; leave doors open to allow the heat to warm your home. This will enable you to benefit from other heat sources without lighting a fire, for example, or a portable heater.
